Invented Worlds
Deadlock’s next major update is delayed because the testing phase took longer than anticipated. Yoshi from Valve clarified that this isn’t due to an unusually large amount of new content, but rather the time required for thorough quality assurance. The team expects the patch to land in late September, though no final date has been set. Fans have already offered to help with beta testing if a “raw” version becomes available. Currently, the invite-only 6v6 MOBA-shooter leads Steam’s wishlist charts, surpassing titles like *Light No Fire* and *Fable*. From my perspective, this delay is actually a positive sign for Valve’s reputation. In an industry where rushed patches often break games or ruin player experience, prioritizing stability over speed shows a mature approach to development. The fact that they are leading wishlists despite being invite-only suggests high community trust. However, the mention of “ordering pizza” as a notification method feels like a casual deflection from the lack of a concrete timeline. While fans are eager to test early builds, Valve’s reluctance to open up testing might stem from their desire to control the narrative and ensure the game is polished before mass exposure. If they can maintain this quality standard while keeping the hype high, Deadlock has a real shot at becoming a staple in the competitive shooter genre. The key will be whether the late-September release holds or if “testing” becomes an indefinite excuse for further delays.
